Underground Museum, Zhanjiawan Village, China

It took two days of bumbling around the bus station in the city of Xi’an before I managed to find the local transport to the site of Hanyangling Mausoleum. It’s not well publicised — as a new and mostly unexcavated archaeological site, it is, for the time being at least, far outgunned by the nearby Terracotta Warriors.
The site itself is huge and will take decades to excavate. What has been uncovered so far is interesting, but it was this hi-tech building that really grabbed me. Constructed underground, there are a lot of glass floors which allow you to walk over and look down into the excavation pits. For those who have the chance, it’s worth a visit.
